In Solidarity on the 100th Anniversary of Fidel Castro Ruz’s Birth
The All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (GC) and its women’s union, the All-African Women’s Revolutionary Union (GC), honor the recent celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth. Although we could not join The First Edition of the International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future” August 10–13, 2026, commemorations in Havana, Cuba, we were honored to have attended the August 12 screening of the film Cuba After Castro: The Island in the Crosshairs in Washington, D.C., where Cuban Embassy officials presented updates on conditions in the country. Our Party regards Fidel Castro as one of the 20th & 21st century’s most uncompromising revolutionaries and consequential political figures.
We agree with Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael), a founding member of our Party, who offered the following insight in the YouTube video “Principles, Cuba and Socialism”:
“Fidel Castro is a great man, and all people who respect justice love him. Cuba is a poor country, but every child, from the day they are born until the day they die, will have free health care, at every level. They don’t even pay for medicine. Cuba is a poor country, but if you were a student in Cuba, you wouldn’t pay a penny for education, not a penny. When you look at poor Cuba, and its concern for its citizens, and when you look at America, rich America and its homeless, of which Cuba has none. You can see the difference between capitalism and socialism.”
This vision of Fidel and the Cuban Revolution inspires us to stand unreservedly with the Cuban people and declare, “Nosotros también somos Fidel” (“We too are Fidel”)!
